TRENDS — To Dye For
This isn’t your typical Woodstock T-shirt: Fashion’s most forward-thinking designers reinvent tie-dye with whimsy and modern sophistication.
Who says tie-dye can’t look up-to-date? Thankfully, not Alexander Wang, Fausto Puglisi or Michael Kors, who brought the bright, ‘70s print back to the runway last June.
While Wang (surprise, surprise) went for a grunge, utilitarian tie-dye look, he threw in a pop of pink in the look above look for some tropical flair. Fausto Puglisi’s take on the print, however, is much more feminine. It has an almost ethereal effect, with a model sporting two shades of blue that look like a cloudy sky.
And like the master of sophistication that he is, Michael Kors did tailored tie-dye. Flared pants are a nice reference to the groovy period that made tie-dye so popular.
As with every bold print, it’s important to style your outfit around the tie-dyed piece. But don’t try too hard to be matchy-matchy, either. The ‘70s were all about freedom and wearing whatever you want, so throw on a funky outfit and rock it! In a tie-dyed jumpsuit like the one below, it will be impossible not to stand out.
